Connect Gigabit-speed fiber optic segments to 10-/100-/1000-Mbps copper segments and power 802.3af devices at the end of UTP runs. Black Box’s new PoE PSE Gigabit Media Converters not only match fiber to copper but also support Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices on the CATx side. Using existing UTP cabling for both data communications and 48-VDC power simplifies a network application for provisioning power and maintaining equipment. It’s particularly ideal for locating equipment where electrical access is inconvenient or just too expensive.

In addition to offering full-duplex data rates up to 2000 Mbps, the converters enable Ethernet communications to go well beyond the 100-meter (327-foot) CATx limit. The multimode versions (LPS500A-MM-SC, LPS500A-MM-LC) support fiber links up to 550 meters (1804.4 ft). But to go much farther—up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles)—order a single-mode model (LPS500A-SM-10K-LC, LPS500A-SM-10K-SC).
