Leaks, breaks, and bends in fiber cabling can cause hours of network downtime and cost thousands in lost productivity. Finding them has been a very daunting and time-consuming process—until now. The new F3X Fiber Fault Finder Gun from Black Box introduces patent-pending point-and-shoot technology to help you pinpoint faults to within inches.

To use the F3X, just point the gun at a fiber cable run, squeeze the trigger, and sweep the gun over the fiber to find faults and fractures in indoor and outdoor cable. It even works in bright daylight, eliminating the need to turn off the lights or to wait until nightfall to work on cable.

The gun is particularly useful for finding breaks in aerial fiber cable. Instead of pulling out the ladder, attach the optional Aerial Scope and Filter and point the gun at the overhead fiber. You’ll be able to see where the problem is, saving hours in troubleshooting time.

The F3X offers far more functionality than a visible laser light source, enabling you to find problems that previously went undiagnosed with traditional methods, such as in OTDR dead zones and splice enclosures. In the data center or telecomm closet, you can locate signals through bulkheads, patch panels, and even dust caps. You can also use the gun to see faults in dark fiber as well as hard-to-diagnose dark blue-, green-, and black-coated fibers.

The F3X system consists of the Fiber Fault Finder Gun and multiple light sources and filters that are sold separately to enable customization depending on your network. A high-powered light source enables you to ID fibers up to 300 kilometers away. You can also choose different filters for multimode and single-mode networks. The F3X is ideal for troubleshooting mission-critical and secure fiber networks, such as in government, military, education, healthcare, finance, etc.
