We Promise that we will educate you in all aspects of your chimney, flue.

That is what a good chimney sweep does. We are proud to have 2 great chimney sweeps, Ready to clean your flue.

How regularly should the chimney be swept?

There are over 30,000 chimney fires every year causing unnecessary damage to homes across the US. These could easily be prevented by regular basic cleaning and maintenance.

The NFPA recommends that chimneys are swept regularly to prevent the risk of chimney fires. How regularly depends on the type of fuel being burnt as follows:

Fuel burnt Frequency

Smokeless fuel Once a year
Coal Twice a year
Wood Burning Quarterly
Gas Once a year
Oil fired Once a year

So How Do We Clean Your Chimney Flues:

There are typically 2 flues in your chimney. A fireplace flue, and a furnace flue. Below We explain how we clean both chimney flues.

A fireplace chimney cleaning or fireplace flue cleaning is performed in either 2 ways. Both ways are equally effective in removing creosote build up in your flue.

The fireplace up method: How to clean a fireplace. The right way!!!

We move all the items off your fireplace mantel.
Then The chimney sweeper will set up a drop cloth in front of your fireplace.
Next The chimney sweeper will set up a drop cloth draping down from the fireplace mantel down to the floor, We do this by placing an object of weight like a fire place fire brick on the top of the mantel where the drop cloth drapes from.
The Chimney Sweep then brings in our chimney cleaning tools and equipment and places them on the drop cloth in front of your fireplace.
The chimney sweep will then get in the fire box of your fire place.
The chimney sweep will brush off as much as he can with a hand brush off the top of your damper a more thourough cleaning of this creosote trap will be performed after the chimney sweeper .
Next the chimney sweeps will Take a rod with the proper size brush head and sweep it up and down the sweep will check with light to see if this first 3 or 5 ft depending on the size of the rod.
Next the chimney sweep will screw on an other rod and repeat the chimney sweeping process 3 to 5 feet at a time untill the chimney sweep has cleaned the entire length of your chimney.
Next the Chimney sweeper will brush as much creosote off the fire place damper on to the floor of the fireplace fire box as the Chimney Sweeper can.
Next the chimney sweep will brush the smoke shelf and and top of your fire place damper with a wire brush head and a hand wire brush.
The chimney sweep is almost done in your living room now, Now the chimney sweeper removes the wieghted objects from the top of your fireplace mantel.
Folds up the drop cloth draping down from your fireplace mantel.
The Chimney sweeps then brush as much of the creosote up into a bucket as they can.
The sweeps then use a shop vac with a hepa filter in it to clean up the remaining creosote.
Next we move on to the clean out door from your ash dump most likely located in your basement or on the outside of your house if your chimney is built on the exterior of your house.
The Chimney sweeps will brush out by hand as much as possible and place it into buckets.
Then the chimney sweeps will use the shop vac to remove the remaining ash.
Now we are done.
Roof to fireplace method: How to clean a fireplace. The right way!!

The chimney Sweep Sets up the drop cloths just like in the fireplace up method.
When done with the set up in your house, the chimney sweep will go to your roof.
Next The chimney sweeper will start sweeping your fire place flue using the rods and proper sized brush head.
Moving down your chimney in 3 to 5 ft sections.
The chimney sweeper will continue this proscess until he has reached the bottom of your flue.
Now the Chimney sweep Goes into the fire box and proceeds to clean your smoke shelf and the top of your damper the same way as in the fireplace up method. This is necessary because the smoke shelf and the fire box is wider than the flue and other wise would not be clean!
All cresote is swept up and put into buckets with the shop vac to remove the rest.
Next we go to the clean out door from your ash dump. We remove all the ash and then we are done.
Now there are a number of reasons as to why we would use a particular method, Basicly we try to use the fireplace up method when ever possible unless you are having work done or estimated that day that invovles a chimney sweep to be on your roof we realy don't have to go on it to perform a proper chimney cleaning.

But from time to time it is easier to perform the roof to fireplace method.

A good example would be if you have several flues.

Furnace Flue Chimney Cleanings

These are performed a little different than your fireplace cleaning. Again there are 2 Methods for this as well.

The Ground up and the roof down.

In either method we start at the furnace. We turn it off!!!
Wheather you have a gas furnace or an oil furnace the pipe that exhausts the fumes from your furnace into you furnace flue is either removed from your chimney or blocked. We try to remove it when ever possible which is almost always.
Then The chimney sweep, sweeps your flue using the rods and proper brush head.
Next the chimney sweeps, reinstalls the furnace exhaust pipe into your chimney or unblocks it.
If the exhaust pipe was removed, The chimney sweeps use high temp furnace cement and put a clean bead around the exhaust pipe where it meets the chimney. This is done to seal it so your furnace exhausts the fumes where it is supposed to, up your chimney.
If there is a clean out door installed we remove the soot build up.
If there isn't a clean out door we offer to install one if it is feasible.
That's it we are done.
